Seeking input: Preparations for Kickstarter

Hey everyone. It's been a while since we put out the final demo version of Complex Relations, so I wanted to give a brief update on the progress towards the Kickstarter campaign.

Currently, the script of the full game is mostly outlined. We want a complete outline of the game prior to launch in order to budget around the planned content, but the outline needs some built-in flexibility to accommodate potential stretch goals. We want to make sure we have a solid plan to deliver on at any amount of funding.

As far as Kickstarter funding goes though, we'd be happy to get some audience input. We're not planning to offer physical goods associated with the game as backer tier rewards; problems with delivery of physical rewards is one of the most common ways that game campaigns fail to follow through on their promises, and we'd rather avoid that risk. Plus, uncertainty about the number of orders for any particular good makes it hard to predict whether they justify the startup cost of producing them. We'd rather focus instead on digital goods or perks whose delivery isn't in question, where we know in advance what it'd cost us to offer.

That being the case, if there are any backer rewards you'd particularly like to see, we'd be interested to hear your suggestions. There *is* room for backers to contribute content (names, minor character designs, etc.) to the game, so if you have any suggestions along those lines which can fit into the script, those could also be incorporated as backer rewards.

Feel free to leave any suggestions as comments here, or if you prefer, come on over to our Discord server to discuss them.

Although I've not written a book about crowd funding here are some thoughts I have

1 - A pre-order of the VN
2 - hotkey remapping
3 - A version of the VN with a digital signature somewhere in the pages
4 - Optional Inclusion in a page of contributors (credits)
5 - Create a map of the surrounding lake side area; top contributors can be noted as property owners of those occasional places that are there. Include before/after credits or as separate media.
6 - Maybe attendance to a live Q&A some time past release?

I'd highly recommend reading Jamey Stegmaier's book on Amazon about crowdfunding. Some lessons there are invaluable and easily overlooked by many people (Example: Try and pledge to at least 10 other campaigns on Kickstarter before launching your own). If you don't want to buy the book, many of his lessons are freely available on his website/blog. Lastly, while you might wonder why I'm suggesting someone who specializes in board games - his knowledge and lessons are easily applicable to anything.
